Initiation of Zopiclone
Our practice has made a clinical decision not to initiate any new prescriptions for zopiclone.
This decision is based on robust clinical evidence and patient safety concerns.
Zopiclone is known to be highly addictive and is only recommended for short-term use (typically 2–4 weeks).
Beyond this period, its effectiveness significantly diminishes as the body builds tolerance, leading many patients to develop dependence without continued benefit.
We have observed that patients often become reliant on zopiclone, and in many cases, it no longer provides the intended therapeutic effect. Additionally, the medication is associated with a range of potential side effects, which further supports our decision to discontinue its initiation.
As a safer alternative, we will offer melatonin, a less addictive option for sleep-related concerns.
This change is in line with current best practice and patient safety guidelines.
Please note: there will be no exceptions to this policy.
Our aim is to provide the most effective and safest care for all our patients.
