Blood tests

Blood tests are carried out at Parkway Health Centre and are also offered at our Branch Surgery at Gravel Hill.

Blood tests at Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and Purley War Memorial Hospital are available Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.45pm (excluding Bank Holidays).

Appointments for the adult phlebotomy department at both hospitals can be arranged by:

Children aged 16 years and over must use the adult phlebotomy department and cannot be seen in Paediatrics.

Children aged 12 to 15 years may have a sample taken at an adult phlebotomy department at the discretion of the phlebotomist. Numbing cream or spray is not available in adult phlebotomy departments.

Appointments for children aged 15 years and under can be made at the Paediatrics Department (Willows Unit) at Croydon University Hospital by calling 020 8401 3177. Numbing cream or spray is available at this clinic.

Blood tests are also available at Purley War Memorial Hospital, Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.45pm.
This is an appointment-only service. Please call 020 8401 3028.
No children under 12 years.

Blood test requests generated at the practice are held electronically for Croydon University Hospital and Purley Hospitals, so a paper request form is not required.

Specimens should be submitted:

  • Before 12.00 noon at Gravel Hill
  • By 3.30pm at ParkwayThis ensures courier collection.

 

Results

Blood test and scan results are available from the reception team between 11.00am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

For confidentiality, results are only given to the patient or to a legal guardian in the case of a child.

If you are registered for the NHS App, you can view your medical records and test results at any time.

It is the patient’s responsibility to contact the practice for their results. The practice will endeavour to make contact where results require further care.

 

How long results take

Please allow approximately:

  • 3 days for urine tests
  • 3 days for most blood tests (some may take longer)
  • 2 weeks for scans and X-rays
  • 4 weeks for smear tests and cervical screening

Monday to Thursday: 8.00am to 4.30pm
Friday: 8.00am to 12.45pm and 1.30pm to 4.15pm

Queen Mary’s Hospital
Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 4.45pm

Nelson Health Centre
Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 7.30pm
Saturday: 8.00am to 1.30pm
